Sevalaya is an organisation dedicated to social service inspired by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, Mahathm Gandhiji, And Mahakavi Bharathiyar.The institution is running an orphanage, oldage home, a rural higher secondary school, a library,and a dispensary etc.,. Recently the institution has bagged an international award. And got a prize of a classroom building to be constructed by Walt Disney.

I am a socially conscious person.I was doing some social activities from my boyhood. As an adult I was given the opportunity to cooperate with like minded elders in building a higher secondary school in my residential area for the poor and lower middle class pupils.The school is going to celebrate silver jubilee in June 2010.I was also instrumental in running a dispensary
for the village poor for over 8 years.Though I named the hospital as" Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Vaidyasala" , the poor village folk preferred to call it 'one rupee hospital'! Those were the days when I was imbued with the noble thoughts of service as a path to spirituality.As God wished, I could not continue the dipensary;as the school has been well founded, my services there is no more reqired. My other services also were discontinued due to many reasons.

Annadanam is my favourrite service which I have been doing regularly.

I was at Thanjavur for over 38 years.Now migrated to Lalgudi.At
Thanjavur I was giving lunch to 20 mentally challenged street
loitering persons for over 4 years.

Now I have started giving daily 3 times food to a
ex-cobler aged 70 who stopped working due to loss of fingers because of
leprosy afliction. He is sitting near railway station here; never begs.
Whatever comes his way he takes it as gift of God.

Morning I give him one temple prasadam pongal(Rs.2/-),two idlis with
sambar and chutney(Rs8/=); full lunch from hotel(Rs.40/=) ;evening
temple prasadam puliyotharai(Rs.3/-) thayirsatham(2/-) and one chips
pocket(5/-). So today his food expenses per day is Rs60/- His cleaning
materials like soap, tooth powder, some medicines, oil,
etc., may cost 40/-perday. So his maintenace at street is 3000/-per month.

The problem is he will not be allowed to enter a hotel.Even the money
touched by him will not be accepted.So I personally feed him.

WHAT IS A STROKE AND HOW TO ACT IF SOME ONE GETS IT

I am not a writer.. I don’t know how to give this article a start. But then, I have promised myself and I have to start. I am the daughter of a businessman. My father suffered a mini stroke in the month of May, to be precise 27th may 2010. The day was a disaster for our family.. to be true we did not know if we would have him with us or not after that moment. What is a stroke? It is a condition in which the blood supply to the brain is affected. The causes can be many. But why I am calling it a mini stroke, you will realize it as you read the article.
On 25th may 2010, my dad was complaining of severe headache which was sudden in onset. I told him it may be just because he must be tired. My first mistake! He till date never had ever complained of such a severe headache. I told him to take a pain killer. He took one on my advice. There was a little relief from the pain. On 27th may 2010, he got ready to go with mom for a wedding. He was absolutely fine till then. After 20 minutes, my mom called me up and told me, “ Beta, your dad can’t speak. He is not realizing where we are going and he is throwing off his shoes. What do I do?”
I was horrified hearing those words. In that one second, I realized I made a mistake of not realizing what his headache meant. I told my mom, “Do not panic, just turn back the rickshaw and get him to the nursing home near our place.” I along with my elder sister ran to the nursing home. I told my sister on the way that I am afraid it could be a stroke. She did not understand what I was talking and to be true, I did not have the guts to tell her what it meant. When my mom got to the nursing home, I asked dad, “dad, what happened?” he did not reply. He was not recognizing who I was. I was shattered. He could speak, but the words were all in the wrong place. He was unaware the he was using wrong words. He was disoriented. I asked him to lie on the bed in the casualty. I asked him to move all his limbs. Luckily, he could. The power in his limbs was perfect. The attending doctor told me “Your dad is hysterical. He is absolutely fine.” I insisted and told him, “he is not hysterical, he is aphasic and disoriented, you have to admit him. I am his daughter and I know my dad well” he did not listen. But in another 5 minutes, he had a convulsion (fits). My sis and mom were shocked to see what was happening. Never in their life had they witnessed a convulsion.

A convulsion is a tonic-clonic movement of all the limbs, there is clinching at the jaw and tongue bites do happen. The patent is unaware about what is happening. I tried to keep calm and held his head so that he would not injure himself. The attack passed off in 20 seconds. And then he lost his consciousness.
He was shifted into the icu. The attending doctor came up to me and told me that he was sorry for his premature judgment. He told me it will take 45 minutes for their senior doctor to come. I wanted to yell at him, but I was more concerned about my dad. I shifted my dad from that nursing home to a reliable hospital. There was risk but I had to take it. All this happened in 1 hour.. but it seemed to be the longest 1 hour.
After the investigations were done in the other hospital, we came to know, the blood in his cerebral sinus (area in the brain where impure blood is drained to) had clotted. He was immediately started on blood thinners. He was absolutely normal the next day..he recognized all of us, was well oriented and spoke to us. The doctors carried out a few more investigations. His vitamin B12 levels were at the minimum. Thanks to the fact we are pure vegetarians. There is minimum vit. B12 in vegetarian diet and could be the cause.
Now, my dad is under treatment, but much better than before.
I called it a mini stroke because in a stroke, usually the patient loses the power in his limb. My dad was having normal power in all his limbs. My dad has no bad habits, his blood pressure is always normal, then too he suffered. We too suffered with him.. but by god’s grace,he is fine!

How to identify that the individual might be having a stroke? Just a few important points..
1st- ask him his name and where is he. This will tell you if he is aware and oriented. You can also understand his speech-the flow, any slurring and wrong phrasing
2nd- try to check the power in his limbs by asking to move them.
3rd- ask him to show his tongue - see if it deviates to one side that could be an indication of a stroke.
Causes that can cause a stroke are high blood pressure, diabetes (high sugar level) and stress among the many causes that can be well controlled. Prolonged bed rest after an operation can also result in clots in your lower limb, which can pass onto your lungs and brain. Early ambulation (movement) is a must. Maintaining your blood pressure to an optimum level is very much essential. Sudden rise in blood pressure can cause hemorrhage or bleeding into the brain. Also, keep a check on your sugar levels in the blood. Do a fasting (minimum 8 hours gap between the dinner time and morning blood testing time) and postprandial (2hrs after lunch) at regular intervals.
Even if you pass on this important information to your loved ones and relatives, I guess my work will be done. You have to be aware and take a step ahead to help your family and friends

New Delhi: If you had not heard of Narayanan Krishnan, it is a collective failure. This is one of the most incredible stories of personal commitment.
Narayanan Krishnan, all of 29 years old now, does what he was professionally trained to do as a chef. Feed people. Only Krishnan does not do this in the swanky confines of a 5-star hotel. Every day, he wakes up at 4 am, cooks a simple hot meal and then, along with his team, loads it in a van and travels about 200 km feeding the homeless in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

Krishnan feeds, often with his hands, almost 400 destitute people every day. And for those who need it, he provides a free haircut too.

According to CNN, eight years ago, this award-winning chef with a five-star hotel chain was all set to go to Switzerland for a high-profile posting. On a visit to a Madurai temple, he came across a homeless, old man eating his own human waste. That stark sight changed Krishnan's life.

Much to the dismay of his parents, CNN says, Krishnan abandoned his career plans and decided to spend his life and his professional training in looking after those who could not care for themselves. He has provided more than 1.2 million hot meals through his nonprofit organisation Akshaya Trust, and now hopes to extend this to shelter for the homeless too.

Krishnan is the only Indian in a list of 10 heroes that CNN has picked worldwide to honour. One of them will be chosen CNN Hero of the Year, selected by the public through an online poll. If many Indians get together to vote for this inspiring man, he can win by a long mile.

If Krishnan wins he will get $100,000 in addition to the $25,000 that he gets for being shortlisted for the Top 10. Akshaya Trust needs all the monetary support it can get to build on Krishnan's dream. Let's help him get there.

A Secretive Start-Up Raises the Curtain

Paul Sakuma/Associated Press K.R. Sridhar, co-founder and chief executive of the Silicon Valley start-up Bloom Energy, holds up a stack of fuel cells in San Jose, Calif., on Wednesday. The company’s first product is a huge box of fuel cells that it hopes will allow homes and businesses to generate their own electricity.

In The New York Times on Wednesday, I wrote about Bloom Energy, the once-secretive Silicon Valley start-up that has apparently made a big breakthrough in developing a fuel cell that can generate electricity at competitive prices while minimizing greenhouse gas emissions.

The company is officially unveiling its Bloom Energy Server at a news conference on Wednesday morning featuring Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California; Colin L. Powell, the former secretary of state and a Bloom board member; and John Doerr, Silicon Valley’s leading green-tech investor. But on Monday and Tuesday, I had the opportunity to spend some time at the start-up’s headquarters in Sunnyvale and to see the Bloom box up close.

In contrast to the usual Silicon Valley practice of announcing a coming product, Bloom spent nearly a decade developing its fuel-cell technology while saying nary a word. Over the past year and a half, it has quietly sold and installed 100-kilowatt Bloom boxes at Google, Bank of America, Wal-Mart and other big companies. The boxes cost $700,000 to $800,000 apiece.

“ Silicon Valley is learning some hard and important skills, mainly making stuff again,” said Mr. Doerr, a partner at the venture-capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and a Bloom Energy board member.
Making stuff, particularly solid-oxide fuel cells, is very hard work. Such fuel cells have been something of a holy grail as they can operate at extremely high temperatures to maximize efficiency and can use a variety of fuels, like natural gas and biogas. Since the heat allows the fuel to be directly transformed into electricity through an electrochemical process, the expensive precious metals and rare-earth elements used in other fuel cells to act as catalysts could theoretically be eliminated.

But finding cheap common materials as substitutes and ensuring fuel cells don’t crack and leak under such conditions have stymied scientists for more than 30 years.

So how did Bloom crack the fuel-cell conundrum?
“I call it R.&D. on steroids,” K.R. Sridhar, Bloom’s 49-year-old co-founder and chief executive, said at the start-up’s offices. “We created an R.&D. platform where you continuously improve, validate and test. Learn why it broke and move on.”

Mr. Sridhar worked on fuel cells as a scientist on NASA’s now-defunct Mars program, where precision engineering and exotic materials were at his disposal. At Bloom, scientists used sand — the silicon-based stuff that gives the Valley its name — to create a thin ceramic wafer that resembles a floppy disk.

In the manufacturing area of Bloom’s offices, wafers shuffle through a machine that paints lime-green ink — the anode — on one side and black ink — the cathode — on the other. Mr. Sridhar says the ink is made from common, low-cost materials and infused with some proprietary “magic dust.”

he ceramic wafer serves as an electrolyte, and as fuel passes over the cell and mixes with oxygen ions, the resulting reaction generates electricity. Each fuel cell generates 25 watts of electricity — a couple of years ago, it was 5 watts, said Mr. Sridhar.

On the other side of the office, workers assemble stacks of fuel cells that fit into polished metal cubes that look like they could have been designed at Apple. A 100-kilowatt Bloom Energy Server will fit in a parking space. (“I didn’t want it to look like a power plant that you hide away,” Mr. Sridhar said.)

Bloom executives said the energy server, which can be installed in a matter of hours, operates at an efficiency of 50 to 55 percent and can reduce greenhouse gas emissions 50 to 100 percent depending on the type of fuel used.

Mr. Sridhar said the Bloom Energy Server has been generating electricity at a cost of 8 to 10 cents a kilowatt-hour.
In California , where Bloom has installed 30 fuel-cell systems, commercial electricity rates averaged about 14 cents a kilowatt-hour in October 2009, according to the latest figures from the United States Department of Energy. Elsewhere, commercial rates averaged 7 to 24 cents a kilowatt-hour.

Last July, eBay flipped the switch on five Bloom Energy Servers that now supply 15 percent of the electricity at its San Jose, Calif., campus, or about five times as much energy as generated by its 3,248 solar panels, according to Amy Skoczlas Cole, director of the company’s Green Team.

“We’re expecting a three-year payback period,” said Ms. Skoczlas Cole, adding that the calculation includes state and federal tax incentives that halved the price of the fuel cells.

In seven months of operations, Bloom has replaced a few fuel-cell wafers, but the machines have otherwise operated without a problem, Ms. Skoczlas Cole said.

Bloom executives said the company spent years developing a proprietary seal made from low-cost materials to prevent cracks and leaks. They estimate that the Bloom boxes will have a 10-year lifespan and that the company will have to swap out the fuel-cell stacks twice during that time.

Mike Brown, an executive with UTC Power, a leading fuel-cell maker, said the fuel cells need to last at least four or five years for the technology to be competitive.

Northern California’s largest utility, Pacific Gas and Electric, has asked regulators for permission to install fuel cells from Bloom and a competitor, FuelCell Energy, according to Janice Berman, a senior director at P.G.&E.

“We think it’s one of the emerging technologies that has great potential, and we’re really interested in understanding how the technology interacts with the grid,” she said.

One byproduct of fuel cells is water, and Bloom has patented and proved a fuel-cell design that could also tap electricity generated by solar panels and wind farms to electrolyze water to produce hydrogen that could be used as fuel in the cell.

“That’s the killer app,” said Mr. Sridhar, who said such a product probably would introduced within a decade.
Mr. Brown wished his rival well.

“We hope they’re successful because that it brings more attention to fuel cells,” he said. “But if they’re not successful, it is not good for the industry because it looks like it’s just more hype about fuel cells.”

தஞ்சைப் பெரிய கோயில்: ஆயிரம் ஆண்டு அற்புதம்

தஞ்சாவூர் வரலாற்று முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்த சோழர்களின் தலைநகரம். இங்குதான் கடைச்சோழர்கள் எனப்படும் விஜயாலயனின் வம்சத்தினர் சோழ நாட்டை ஆண்டு வந்தார்கள். இங்குதான் விஜயாலயன் தங்கள் குலதெய்வமான நிசும்பசூதனிக்கு ஓர் ஆலயம் எடுத்து வழிபட்டான். அவனது வழித்தோன்றல்கள் பற்பல போர்களில் வெற்றி பெற்று தமிழரின் பெருமையை உலகுக்குப் பறைசாற்றினர். இங்குதான் மாமன்னன் ராஜராஜன் உலகமே கண்டு வியக்கும் வண்ணம் ஓர் கற்கோயில் எடுத்துப்பித்து அங்கு ஓர் மாபெரும் சிவலிங்கத்தைப் பிரதிஷ்டை செய்து பெருமை பெற்றான்.

அத்தகைய பெருமை பெற்ற தஞ்சாவூர் மற்றும் இங்கு வானளாவ எழுந்து நிற்கும் இராஜராஜேச்சரம் எனப்படும் பிரஹதீஸ்வரருக்கான பெரிய கோயிலைப் பற்றி, வரலாறு, கல்வெட்டு ஆகியவைகளின் அடிப்படையில் ‘தஞ்சாவூர்’ எனும் ஓர் ஒப்பற்ற நூலையும் ‘இராஜராஜேச்சரம்’ எனும் மற்றொரு நூலையும் எழுதி வரலாற்றில் இடம்பெற்று விட்டவர் முனைவர் குடவாயில் பாலசுப்பிரமணியம்.

இவருடைய மேற்படி நூல்களில் இருக்கும் செய்திகளைத் தவிர வேறு எந்தப் புதிய தகவலையும் மற்றவர் யாரும் கொடுத்துவிட முடியாது. எனவே, அவருடைய நூல்களில் கண்ட அருமையான செய்திகளை இந்தக் கட்டுரையில் கொடுத்திருக்கிறேன். இது முழுவதும் அவருடைய கண்டுபிடிப்புகளே; இதில் எதையும் நான் புதிதாக எழுதிவிடவில்லை. இங்கு கொடுக்கப்படும் செய்திகள் அனைத்தும் அவரது நூல்களில் காணப்படும் கருத்துக்களேயன்றி, சொந்தச் சரக்கு எதுவுமில்லை. தமிழகமும், தமிழர்களும் இத்தகைய வரலாற்றுச் செய்திகளுக்காக யாரையாவது பாராட்டி பெருமை செய்யவேண்டுமென்றால், அதற்கு இவரைத் தவிர வேறு யாரும் தகுதியாக இருக்கமுடியாது. ஆகவே முதலில் முனைவர் குடவாயில் பாலசுப்பிரமணியன் அவர்களுக்கு எனது மனமார்ந்த நன்றியறிதலைத் தெரிவித்துக் கொண்டு கட்டுரையைத் தொடங்குகிறேன்.

‘இராஜராஜேச்சரம்’ - பெயர்க்காரணம்.

“கோயில் என்பது சைவர்களுக்குத் தில்லை பொன்னம்பலத்தையும், வைணவர்களுக்குத் திருவரங்கத்தையும் குறிப்பது போலப் பொது மக்களுக்குப் ‘பெரிய கோயில்’ என்றால் அது தஞ்சை இராஜராஜேச்சரமே ஆகும்.”

“பெரிய கோயில், ‘ப்ருஹத் ஈஸ்வரம்’ எனும் வடமொழிப் பெயரால் ‘பிரஹதீஸ்வரம்’ என்றும், பெரிய லிங்கத்திருமேனி இடம் பெற்றுள்ளது என்பதால் ‘பிரஹதீஸ்வரர் ஆலயம்’ எனவும் அழைக்கப்படலாயிற்று. தென்னாட்டுக் கோயில்களுக்குள் மிக உயர்ந்த விமானத்தை உடையதால்தான் ‘பெரியகோயில்’ என்ற சிறப்புப் பெயர் பெற்று விளங்குகிறது. இக்கோயிலின் ஸ்ரீவிமானம் தக்ஷிணமேரு எனப்பெயர் பெற்றுத் திகழ்கிறது.”

சென்ற நூற்றாண்டில் இத்திருக்கோயிலின் வரலாறு மக்களால் தெளிவாக அறியப்பட்டிருக்கவில்லை. சைவர்களால் திருவிசைப்பா படிக்கப்பட்டு வந்தபோதும், அதிலுள்ள இராஜராஜேச்சுரம் என்னும் தொடர் வரலாற்று உணர்வோடு புரிந்து கொள்ளப்படவில்லை.

இச்சிவாலயத்தைப் பற்றிப் பலவகையான கற்பனைக் கதைகள் ஏட்டிலும், நாட்டிலும் வழங்கி வந்தன.

“இக்கோயிலைக் கட்டியவர் என்று பலருடைய பெயர்கள் தவறாகப் பரவியிருந்தன. 1892இல் வெளியான ‘தென்னிந்திய கல்வெட்டுக்கள்’ என்னும் நூலில், “பாண்டிய குலாசனி வளநாட்டுத் தஞ்சாவூர்க் கூற்றத்துத் தஞ்சாவூர் நாம் எடுப்பிச்ச திருக்கற்றளி ஸ்ரீராஜராஜீஸ்வரம்” எனும் தொடரால்தான் இது மாமன்னன் ராஜராஜன் கட்டிய செய்தி உறுதி செய்யப்பட்டது. இதுதவிர இந்தக் கோயிலைப் பற்றிய வேறு பல செய்திகளும் தவறாகவே சொல்லப்பட்டு வந்திருக்கின்றன. அவை:- நிழல் கீழே விழாத கோபுரம்; வளர்ந்து வருகின்ற நந்தி, சாரப்பள்ளம் எனும் கிராமத்திலிருந்து சாரம் கட்டி கோபுர உச்சிக்கு 80 டன் எடையுள்ள பிரமரந்திரக்கல் ஏற்றப்பட்டது என்பது போன்ற பல செய்திகள் பொய்.”

“மன்னன் ராஜராஜனுக்கு இந்த ஆலயம் எழுப்பிட பலர் உதவியிருக்கிறார்கள். இந்தக் கோயிலால் ஆன்மீகம் வளர்ந்தது, கலைகள் செழித்தன; சோழநாட்டின் பொருளாதாரம் சிறந்தது என்பது போன்ற பல சாதனைகளைச் சொல்லி மகிழலாம். ராஜராஜனுடைய பெருந்தன்மையை விளக்கும் ஒரு செய்தி, இவ்வாலயம் எழுப்ப அவனுக்கு உதவிய அத்தனை பேருடைய பெயர்களையும் கல்வெட்டில் எழுதி வைத்திருக்கிறான்.”

‘இராஜராஜேஸ்வரம்’ எழும்பியுள்ள தஞ்சாவூர் பகுதி முழுவதும் ஆறுகள், வாய்க்கால்கள், வயல்வெளிகள் என பாறைகளே இல்லாத சமவெளிப் பிரதேசம். இங்கு பெரிய பெரிய கற்பாறைகளைக் கொண்டுவந்து தரை கெட்டியாகவுள்ள செம்மண் பிரதேசத்தில் இக்கோயிலை அமைத்துள்ளதே இவனது பொறியியல் திறமைக்குச் சான்று. இங்கு உபயோகப்படுத்தப்பட்ட பாறைகள் அனைத்தும் புதுக்கோட்டையை அடுத்த குன்னாண்டார்கோயில் பகுதியிலிருந்து கொண்டுவரப்பட்டவை என்பது முனைவர் குடவாயில் அவர்களின் கருத்து.

நுழைவுக் கோபுரம் - கேரளாந்தகன் திருவாயில்

இவ்வாலயத்தின் நுழைவு வாயிலாகத் திகழ்வது ‘கேரளாந்தகன் திருவாயில்’ எனப்படும். மாமன்னன் இராஜராஜன் தான் முடிசூடிய நான்காம் ஆண்டில் ‘காந்தளூர்ச்சாலை கலமருத்தருளிய கோஇராஜகேசரிவர்மன்’ என்று பெயர்பெற்றான். பொ.பி.988ஆம் ஆண்டில் கேரளத்தில் திருவனந்தபுரம் அருகிலுள்ள காந்தளூர்ச்சாலையை வென்று இப்பட்டப்பெயர் பெற்றான். இந்த கேரளாந்தகன் திருவாயிலைக் கடந்து உள்ளே சென்றால் அடுத்து வருவது ‘இராஜராஜன் திருவாயில்’. அதையும் தாண்டி உள்ளே சென்றால் இருப்பது ‘நந்தி மண்டபமும்’ மாபெரும் நந்தி உருவமும். இப்போது அங்குள்ள பெரிய நந்தி நாயக்க மன்னர்கள் காலத்தில் வைக்கப்பட்டது. மன்னன் ராஜராஜன் நிறுவிய பழைய நந்தி இப்போதும் ‘வாராஹி’ அம்மன் சந்நிதிக்கருகில் வைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.

ராஜராஜன் எழுப்பிய மாபெரும் கோயிலுக்குள் நுழைவதற்கு முன் நாம் தாண்டிச் செல்லவேண்டிய இவ்விரு கோபுரங்களின் சிறப்பை அறிய வேண்டுமானால் குடவாயில் அவர்களின் நூலைப் படித்துத் தெரிந்து கொள்ளலாம். இனி கோயிலின் சிறப்பினைப் பார்ப்போம்.

திருக்கோயிலின் அமைப்பு

ஆலயத்தின் மதிற்சுவரோடு இணைந்து நாற்புறமும் திருச்சுற்று மாளிகை அமைந்திருக்கிறது. அதன் வடபுற விமானத்துக்கருகே சண்டீசரின் சந்நிதி உள்ளது. இவ்வளவுதான் அந்த ஆலயத்தின் பழைய தோற்றம். திருச்சுற்று மாளிகையில் பல பரிவார தேவதைகளுக்கான சிறு சந்நிதிகள் உண்டு. பழைய காலத்தில் வடக்குப் புறம் ஓர் அம்மன் ஆலயம் இருந்ததாகத் தெரிகிறது. “திருச்சுற்று மாளிகையில் ஆலயத்து பரமேஸ்வரி” என்று ஒரு கல்வெட்டு கூறுகிறது.

ஆலயத்தின் மகாமண்டபம், அர்த்தமண்டபம் இவைகளைத் தாண்டிச் சென்றால் ஆலயத்தின் கற்றளி விமானம் இருக்கிறது. “இந்த ஸ்ரீவிமானம் 30.18மீ அளவுடைய உயர்ந்த அதிஷ்டானத்தின் மேல் கருவறை நடுவே திகழ, அதனைச் சுற்றி நான்கு புறமும் வாயில்களுடனும் ஓர் சுற்று அறையுடனும் திகழ்கின்றது. இராஜராஜேச்சரமுடையார் எனும் மிகப்பெரிய லிங்கத் திருவுருவம் நடுவே திகழ, ஒரே வாயிலுடனும் 11அடி கனமுடைய சுற்றுச் சுவர்களுடனும் கருவறை உள்ளது. கருவறைக்கு வெளிப்புறம் அமைந்துள்ள அறை 6அடி அகலமுடையதாக விளங்குகிறது. இங்கு புறச்சுவர்களின் நான்கு பக்கச்சுவர்களின் அகலம் 13 அடி கனமுள்ளது. சிவலிங்கத்துக்கு மேலே விதானம் மரத்தாலானது. இது பிற்காலத்தில் அமைக்கப்பட்டது. விமானம் உட்புறம் கூடாக அமைந்திருக்க அதன் இருண்ட பகுதிக்குள் வெளவால்கள் அடைந்துகொண்டு லிங்கத்தின் மேல் அசிங்கம் செய்துவந்த காரணத்தால் அதனைத் தடுக்கும் பொருட்டு மர அடைப்பு இடப்பட்டதாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது.

கருவறைக்கு மேல் இரண்டாம் தளம் உள்ளது. மகாமண்டபம் வழியாகப் படியேறிச்சென்றால் இந்த தளத்துக்குச் செல்லலாம். இங்கே ஒரு திருச்சுற்று இருக்கிறது. இங்கு இருபக்கச் சுவர்களும் மேலே போகப்போக ஒன்றுகூடி 30அடியுள்ள கனமான சுவராக ஆகிவிடுகிறது. இந்த இடத்திலிருந்து விமானம் உட்புறம் பிரமிட் வடிவில் குவிந்து 13 அடுக்குகளாக உயர்ந்து கடைசியாக 8.7மீ பக்க அளவுடைய ஒரு சதுரத் தளத்தை உருவாக்கியிருக்கிறது. இந்த தளத்தில் எட்டு நந்திகள் உள்ளன. மையத்தில் 20மீ சுற்றளவுள்ள பெரிய பாறைபோன்ற அமைப்பு, அதன் மேல் சிகரம் அது சுமார் 12 அடி உயரமுள்ளது. இந்த விமானம் தரையிலிருந்து கலசம் வரை 60.40 மீ உயரமுள்ளது.

இந்த விமானத்தின் உச்சியில் உள்ள பாறைபோன்ற அமைப்பு ஒரே கல்லால் ஆனது 80 டன் எடையுடையது என்றெல்லாம் பேசப்பட்டாலும், அது உண்மையல்ல என்பது முனைவர் குடவாயில் அவர்களின் முடிவு. இந்தக் கல்லை ஒரு கிழவி கொடுத்தாள் என்பதெல்லாம் கற்பனை கதை என்றும் அவர் கூறுகிறார். இந்த பாறைவடிவம் பல கற்களை இணைத்து உருவாக்கப்பட்டதாம். இருந்தாலும் ஒரே கல் போன்ற தோற்றமளிக்கும் வகையில் அவ்வளவு நேர்த்தியாக இவை கோர்க்கப்பட்டிருப்பது வியப்புக்குரியது.

அற்புதமான துவாரபாலகர்கள்

பெரிய நந்தியிலிருந்து மகாமண்டபத்துள் நுழையுமுன் இருக்கும் முன்மண்டப வாயில் இரண்டு துவாரபாலகர்கள் உண்டு. ஒரு துவாரபாலகரின் காலடியில் ஒரு மலைப்பாம்பு யானை ஒன்றை விழுங்கிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது. இது ஓர் அரிய உட்பொருளை விளக்குகிறது என்று ஆசிரியர் கூறுகிறார். இந்த ஆலயமே ஒரு மாபெரும் தத்துவப் படைப்பு என்றும், இந்தச் சிற்பங்கள் அப்படிப்பட்ட தத்துவங்களை விளக்குவன என்றும் குடவாயில் கூறுகிறார்.

அம்மன் ஆலயம்

நத்தி மண்டபத்திற்கு வடபுறம் அமைந்திருப்பது அம்மன் ஆலயம். இங்கு மேற்புறச் சுவரில் காணப்படும் ஓர் கல்வெட்டின்படி இது பாண்டிய மன்னனின் கல்வெட்டு என்பது தெரிகிறது. முதலில் அர்த்த மண்டபத்திற்குள் செல்ல வடக்கு, தெற்கு ஆகிய திசைகளில்தான் படிகள் இருந்தனவாம். பிறகு நாயக்க மன்னர்கள் காலத்தில் முன்மண்டபம் வழியாகச் செல்லும் பாதை அமைக்கப்பட்டதாகவும் தெரிகிறது. நாயக்க மன்னர்கள் காலத்தில் பிரமிச்சி நாயக்கர் மண்டபம், மல்லப்ப நாயக்கர் மண்டபம், மூர்த்தி அம்மன் மண்டபம் ஆகியவற்றை எழுப்பித்ததோடு ஆலயத்தின் வடமேற்கு மூலையில் சுப்பிரமணியருக்கு ஓர் அற்புதமான சிற்ப வேலைப்பாடுகளுடன் கூடிய கோயிலையும் எழுப்பியிருக்கின்றனர். நாயக்க மன்னர்கள் பெரும்பாலும் வைணவர்களாக இருந்தபோதும் தஞ்சையில் நாயக்க வம்சத்தை ஸ்தாபித்த சேவப்ப நாயக்கன் மட்டும் சைவனாக இருந்தான் எனவும், இவனே சுப்பிரமணியர் ஆலயத்தை எழுப்பியிருக்க வேண்டும் என்றும் நம்புகின்றனர்.

நந்தி மண்டபமும் அங்கே அமைந்திருக்கும் மாபெரும் நந்தியும் நாயக்க மன்னர்களின் கொடை. இந்த ரிஷப மண்டபம் 5அடி உயரமுடைய மேடைமீது 16 தூண்கள் கொண்டு எழுப்பப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. மேற்கூரை ஒரே சமதளமாக இல்லாமல் ஏற்ற இறக்கத்துடன் அமைந்துள்ளது. இந்த நந்தி மண்டபத்தையும், சந்நிதிக்குள் நுழையும் முன்மண்டபத்தையும் இணைக்க நாயக்க மன்னர்கள் முயன்றிருக்கிறார்கள். அதற்காக அவர்கள் எழுப்பிய ஒரு தூண் இப்போதும் துவஜஸ்தம்பம் அருகில் இருக்கிறது.

விநாயகர் ஆலயம்

திருச்சுற்றின் தென்மேற்கு மூலையில் அமைந்திருக்கும் விநாயகர் ஆலயம் மராட்டிய மன்னன் சரபோஜியால் கட்டப்பட்டது. மன்னன் ராஜராஜன் கட்டிய விநாயகர் கோயில் திருச்சுற்று மாளிகையில் இருக்கிறது. இது மராட்டிய கட்டுமானத்தோடு விளங்குகிறது. இதன் பின்புறம் 108 சிறிய சிவலிங்கங்கள் உள்ளன. இவற்றை சரபோஜி மன்னன் வீரசிங்கம்பேட்டை எனும் ஊரிலிருந்து கொண்டுவந்து 1801இல் பிரதிஷ்டை செய்ததாக ஆவணங்கள் கூறுகின்றன. இச்சிவலிங்கங்கள் வீரசிங்கம்பேட்டையில் கி.பி. 750இல் இரண்டாம் நந்திவர்மன் எழுப்பிய ஆயிரத்தளியில் இருந்தவை, பின்னாளில் அந்நகரம் அழியவே அந்த இடிபாடுகளிலிருந்து லிங்கங்களைக் கொணர்ந்து சரபோஜி இங்கே பிரதிஷ்டை செய்தான் என்கின்றனர்.

தஞ்சை பெருவுடையார் திருவுருவம்

தஞ்சைக் கோயிலின் கட்டட அமைப்பு பெரும் கோயிலாகத் தொன்றுகிறதோ அதுபோலவே அதிலுள்ள சிற்பங்களுமும் பெரியதாகவும் எழில்மிகுந்தனவாகவும் காட்சியளிக்கின்றன. மற்ற சிவாலயங்களைப் பார்க்கும்போது இங்குள்ள சிற்பங்கள் தனித்துவமிக்கதாக இருக்கின்றன. இங்குதான் மிகப்பெரிய சிவலிங்கம் மூலவராகக் காட்சியளிக்கிறார். பெருவுடையார் எனப்பெயர் பெற்று விளங்கும் இந்த லிங்கத் திருமேனி முழுவதும் கருங்கல் பாறையில் செதுக்கப்பட்டது. மூன்று பகுப்புகளாகப் பிரிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும் இதில் நடுவில் லிங்கபாணம் நீண்ட தூண்வடிவில் இருக்கிறது. அதன் மேல்பாகம் உருளை வடிவில் இருக்கிறது. இதன் பீடப்பகுதி சதுர வடிவில் இருக்கிறது. நடுப்பகுதியில் எண்பட்டை அமைப்பில் இருக்கிறது. இது தரையிலிருந்து 12 அடி 10 அங்குல உயரத்தில் இருந்தாலும் இதன் அடிப்பகுதி தரைக்குள் 3 அல்லது 4 அடியாவது புதைக்கப்பட்டிருக்க வேண்டும். ஏறத்தாழ இது 16அடி உயரமுடைய ஒரே கல்லிலால் ஆன லிங்க வடிவமாகும்.

இராஜராஜேச்சரத்தில் மனித உருவச் சிலைகள்

இராஜராஜேச்சரத்து கல்வெட்டில் மன்னனின் தமக்கை குந்தவை நாச்சியார் தன் தந்தை இரண்டாம் பராந்தகனான சுந்தர சோழருக்கும் தன் தாயார் வானமன் மாதேவியார்க்கும் செப்புத் திருமேனிகள் எடுத்தமை பற்றி குறிப்புகள் காணப்படுகின்றன. இந்த சுந்தர சோழனை பொன்மாளிகை துஞ்சின தேவர் என கல்வெட்டுகள் குறிப்பிடுகின்றன. அவர் நந்திபுரத்து அரண்மனையில் பொன்மாளிகையில் துஞ்சினவர் என்பதால் இந்தப் பெயர் பெற்றார். இராஜராஜன் அவன் தமக்கையார் ஆகியோர் தங்கள் தந்தைக்கும் தாய்க்கும் படிமங்கள் அமைத்து வழிபட்டமை தெரிகிறது.

இவை தவிர மன்னன் இராஜராஜனுக்கும் அவனது தேவி லோகமாதேவி ஆகியோர்க்கு பொய்கைநாடு கிழவன் ஆதித்தன் சூரியன் எனும் தென்னவன் மூவேந்த வேளான் படிமங்கள் எடுத்ததை ஒரு கல்வெட்டு கூறுகிறது.

அர்த்த மண்டப தென்வாயிலில் மன்னன் இராஜராஜனும் அவன் மகன் ராஜேந்திரனும் சிலைவடிவில் காட்சியளிக்கிறார்கள். அவை அளவில் மிகச் சிறியதாகவும் கடவுளை வணங்கும் கோலத்தில் அவை வடிக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதையும் காணலாம்.

இராஜராஜேச்சரத்தில் கலைப்பணிகள்

தஞ்சை இராஜராஜேச்சரத்தில் இயல் இசை நாடகம் எனும் தமிழனின் முத்தமிழ் பிரிவுகள் சிறப்பாக வளர்ந்திருக்கின்றன. இவை இங்குள்ள கல்வெட்டுகள், சுவடிகள், சிற்பங்கள், ஓவியங்கள் வாயிலாக அறியலாம். பின்னர் வந்த விஜயநகரப் பேரரசுகள், மராத்தியர்கள் ஆகியோர் காலத்திலும் இவை இங்கு சிறப்பாக வளர்க்கப்பட்டிருக்கின்றன. இது ஓர் கலைக் களஞ்சியமாகத் திகழ்ந்திருப்பதை அறியமுடிகிறது.

இராஜராஜன் தேவார ஏடுகளைச் சிதம்பரம் ஆலயத்திலிருந்து மீட்டான் எனவும், அதனை நம்பியாண்டார் நம்பி முறைப்படுத்திக் கொடுத்தார் எனவும் வரலாறு சொல்லுகிறது. எனினும் இராஜராஜன் காலத்துக்கு முன்பிருந்தே ஆலயங்களில் திருப்பதிகம் விண்ணப்பம் செய்யும் முறை இருந்திருக்கிறது. இதற்காக பணியாற்றியோர் பலரின் பெயர்கள் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டிருக்கின்றன.

இங்கு திருமுறை விண்ணப்பம் பாடுவோர், உடுக்கை வாசிப்போர், மத்தளம் வாசிப்போர் ஆகியோர் இருந்ததற்கான குறிப்புகள் இருக்கின்றன. தஞ்சை பெரிய கோயிலில் நாட்டியக் கலை மிக மேன்மையாக வளர்க்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது என்பது முக்கிய செய்தி. தஞ்சை பெருவுடையார் ஆலயத்தில் நாட்டியத்திற்காக நானூற்று ஏழு நாட்டிய மங்கைகளும் ஏழு நட்டுவனார்களும், உடன்பாடுவோர் நான்கு பேரும், மெராவியம் எனும் இசைக்கருவி இசைப்பார் இருவர், கானம் பாடுவோர் இருவர், வங்கியம் இசைப்பார் மூவர், பாடவியம் எனும் இசைக்கருவியை இசைப்போர் நால்வர், உடுக்கை வாசிப்போர் இருவர், வீணை வாசிப்போர் இருவர் ஆரியம் பாடுவார் மூவர் (அதாவது வேதம் ஓதுதல்) தமிழ் பாடுவோர் நால்வர், கொட்டி மத்தளம் வாசிப்போர் இருவர், முத்திரைச் சங்கு ஊதுவோர் மூவர், பக்கவாத்தியம் வாசிபோர் ஐவர் இப்படி பற்பலர் இங்கு பணிபுரிந்ததற்கான வரலாற்று ஆவணங்கள் உண்டு. திருப்பதியம் விண்ணப்பம் செய்வோருக்கு பிடாரர்கள் என்று பெயர்.

இப்படி ஆலயத்தில் பாடுவதற்கும், உடன் வாத்தியம் வாசிப்பதற்கும், நடனமிடுதற்கும் இந்தக் கலைஞர்களுக்கு அளிக்கப்படும் ஊதியம், அவர்களுக்கு அளிக்கப்பட்டுள்ள உரிமைகள் இவைகள் விளக்கமாகக் கொடுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கின்றன. நாட்டியமாடும் நங்கையர் நானூற்றி ஏழு பேருக்கும் இரண்டு தளிச்சேரிகள் (குடியிருப்புப் பகுதிகள்) அமைத்து அவரவர்க்குத் தனித்தனியாக வீடுகள் கொடுத்து அவற்றுக்கு இலக்கங்களும் கொடுத்த செய்தி குறித்து வைக்கப் பட்டிருக்கிறது. இந்த நங்கையர் அனைவர் பெயர்களும் அவர்கள் எந்த ஊரைச்சேர்ந்தவர், முன்பு பணிபுரிந்த இடம் ஆகிய செய்திகளும் கொடுக்கப் பட்டிருப்பதிலிருந்து, அரசன் இவர்களுக்கு எத்தகைய முக்கியத்துவம் அளித்தான் என்பதை அறியலாம்.

ஆடற்கலைக்கு அரசன் அளித்த முக்கியத்துவம், அவன் வடித்துள்ள கரணச் சிற்பங்களிலிருந்து அறியலாம். ஆடற்கலைக்கு மூல முதல்வன் சிவபெருமான் நடராஜ மூர்த்தி எனும் ஆடவல்லான் ஆகும். “ஒரு மொழிக்கு எழுத்தும், அவ்வெழுத்துக்களின் கோர்வையான சொற்களும்தான் அடிப்படை. அதுபோல பரதக் கலைக்கு அடிப்படையாகத் திகழ்வது நூற்று எட்டு கரணங்கள். சிவபெருமான் முதன்முதலில் கரணங்களைப் போதித்தாராம். தஞ்சை இராஜராஜேச்சரத்தைப் போலவே பரதக்கலை கரணங்கள் தில்லை, திருக்குடந்தை, திருவண்ணாமலை போன்ற இடங்களிலும் உள்ளன. சில இடங்களில் பெண்கள் கரணங்கள் ஆடுவதாகவும், குடந்தையில் முருகக் கடவுள் ஆடுவதாகவும் சிற்பங்கள் உண்டு. இங்கு தஞ்சையில் பெருவுடையார் மூலத்தானத்துக்கு மேலே உள்ள பிரகார சுவர்களில் இந்த 108 கரணங்கள் செதுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கின்றன. 104 முழுமை அடைந்து விட்ட நிலையில் என்ன காரணத்தாலோ கடைசி நான்கு நிறைவு பெறவில்லை.

ஆலய ஊழியர்களுக்கு நிவந்தங்களும் ஊதியங்களும்

மாமன்னன் இராஜராஜன் இவ்வாலயத்தின் செயல்பாட்டுக்காக பல நிவந்தங்களை இட்டு வைத்தான். எண்ணற்ற பொன்னணிகள், பொன்னால் ஆன பாத்திரங்கள், பொன் திருமேனிகள், வெள்ளிப்பாத்திரங்கள், வெள்ளித் திருமேனிகள், செப்புத் திருமேனிகள் என்று இவன் வழங்கியுள்ள நிவந்தங்கள் எண்ணற்றவை. சோழமண்டலத்தில் மட்டுமல்ல இவன் வெற்றி கொண்ட பிற பிரதேசங்களிலிருந்தும் பல ஊர்களை இந்தக் கோயிலுக்கு அளித்திருக்கிறான். ஊர்நத்தம் திருக்கோயில்கள், குளங்கள் என்று இவன் செய்வித்த அறங்கள் அளப்பரியன. நிலங்களுக்கு வரி நிர்ணயம் செய்து ஒவ்வோராண்டும் அளக்கப்பட வேண்டிய நெல்லும், அந்த நெல்லை அளக்க ‘ஆடவல்லான்’ எனும் பெயரில் ஓர் மரக்காலும் நியமித்தான்.

ஒரு ஊரின் மொத்த நிலப்பரப்பு, அதில் வரி விலக்கு பெற்ற விளை நிலங்கள், கோயில்களுக்கு தேவதானமாகத் தரப்பட்ட நிலப்பரப்பு, அதற்கு நிச்சயிக்கப்பட்ட வரி கோயிலுக்கு செலுத்துதல், எவ்வளவு நெல் அளக்க வேண்டும் என்பதுபோன்ற பல விவரங்களை கல்வெட்டில் எழுதி வைத்தான். துல்லியமான நில அளவினைக் குறித்து கோயிலுக்கு வரவேண்டிய நெல்லின் அளவு போன்றவற்றையும் மிகச் சரியாகக் குறித்து வைத்தான். இவன் பல ஊர்களிலும், பல நிலப்பரப்புகளிலிருந்தும் கோயிலுக்கு வரவேண்டிய மொத்த நெல்லின் அளவையும் குறித்து வைத்திருக்கிறான். அதன்படி இக்கோயிலுக்கு ஆண்டு ஒன்றுக்கு ஏறத்தாழ ஒரு லட்சத்துப் பதினையாயிரம் கலம் நெல்லும், 300 கழஞ்சுப் பொன்னும், 2000 காசுகளும் நிரந்தர வருமானம் கிடைக்க ஆவன செய்தான்.

பெருவுடையார் ஆலயத்துக்கு பணிக்கப்பட்ட தளிச்சேரிப் பெண்டுகளுக்கு தலைக்கு ஒரு வேலி வீதம் 400 வேலி நிலம் மான்யமாக அளிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. வேலி ஒன்றுக்கு 100 கலம் நெல்லை இவர்கள் பெற்றார்கள். இந்தப் பெண்கள் இறந்தாலோ அல்லது வெளியூர்களுக்குச் சென்றுவிட்டாலோ உரிமையுள்ள இவர்களது குடும்பத்தார் நிலத்தின் பலன்களைப் பெறமுடியும்.

பரிசாரகர் பண்டாரி கணக்கர்

இந்த ஆலய ஊழியத்துக்காக பரிசாரகர், பண்டாரி, கணக்கர் போன்றவர்கள் நியமிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தனர். அதன்படி இங்கு 4 பண்டாரிகளும், 170 மாணிகளும், 6 கணக்கர்களும், 12 கீழ்கணக்கர்களும் பணியில் அமர்த்தப்பட்டனர். சிலர் நிரந்தர ஊழியர்கள். மற்றையோர் பல்வேறு ஊர்களிலிருந்து சுழற்சி முறையில் கோயில் பணியில் இருப்பார்கள். கோயில் பண்டாரம் (stores) கருவறைப்பணி, கணக்குப்பணி இவற்றில் இருப்போர் கோயிலுக்குரிய பெரும் சொத்துக்களை பராமரிப்பவர்கள் என்பதால் இவர்களுக்குச் சொந்தமாக நிலம், பொருள், உறவினர் ஆகியவை இருத்தல் அவசியம். கருவூலத்தில் பொன், நவமணிகள், நெல் போன்ற விலை மதிப்புள்ள பொருட்கள் இருப்பதால் இங்கு பணிபுரிவோர் தூயவர்களாக இருத்தல் அவசியம் என்பது உணரப்பட்டது. அரசாங்க சேவையில் தூய்மைக்கும் நாணயத்துக்கும் அதிக முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது என்பதை இதனால் அறிய முடிகிறது.

காவலர்கள்

பெரிய கோயில் பண்டாரங்களில் விலை உயர்ந்த பொருட்கள் குவிக்கப்பட்டிருந்ததால், இவை அனைத்தும் சோழ மண்டல மக்களுக்குச் சொந்தம் இதில் எந்தவித தவறும் நடந்துவிடக்கூடாது என்பதால் மன்னன் இவைகளுக்குத் தகுந்த காவலர்களை நியமித்தான். சோழ மண்டலம் முழுவதிலும் 118 ஊர்களிலிருந்து மெய்க்காவலர்கள் நியமிக்கப் பெற்றனர் என்று கல்வெட்டுக்கள் கூறுகின்றன.

ஆலயத்திற்குக் கொடைகள்

இராஜராஜேச்சரத்தில் திருவிளக்குகள் ஏற்றுவதற்காக நெய் முதலானவை கிடைக்க ஆயிரக்கணக்கான ஆடுகள், பசுக்கள், எருமைகள் ஆகியன கொடுத்திருந்தான். ஒரு விளக்குக்கு நாள் ஒன்றுக்கு ஓர் உழக்கு நெய் அளிக்க வேண்டும். இதற்காக பணமாகவோ நிலமாகவோ அளிக்காமல் ஊருக்கும் பயன்படும் விதத்தில் கால்நடைகளையே அளித்திருந்தான். மன்னன் மட்டுமா? அவன் அமைச்சர்கள், அரண்மனைப் பெண்டிர், உயர் அதிகாரிகள் அனைவருமே இந்த கொடையில் பங்கு பெற்று கொடைகள் அளித்து மகிழ்ந்தனர். காசு ஒன்றுக்கு 2 ஆடும், காசு இரண்டுக்கு 1 பசுவும், காசு மூன்றுக்கு ஒரு எருமையும் விற்கப்பட்டதாகத் தெரிகிறது.

பல்வேறு இடங்களில் வாழ்ந்தவர்கள் இந்தக் கொடைகளை வாங்கிக்கொண்டு நாள்தோறும் உழக்கு நெய் அளிக்க ஒப்புக்கொண்டனர். அவன் எவ்வளவு கால்நடைகள் வைத்திருந்தாலும் அவன் கோயிலுக்குத் தரவேண்டியது ஒரு உழக்கு நெய்தான், மீதம் அவன் சொந்தத்துக்கு உபயோகித்துக் கொள்ளலாம்.

மக்கள் பயன்பாட்டுக்குத் தேவையான அவசியப் பண்டங்களின் விலைக் கட்டுப்பாடு

இன்றைய தேதியில் நாமெல்லாம் விலைவாசி உயர்வு பற்றி பேசிப்பேசி பலன் எதுவுமின்றி தவித்து வருகிறோமல்லவா? ஆனால் அன்று மாமன்னன் ராஜராஜன் விலைவாசி உயராமல் இருக்கக் கடைப்பிடித்த ஒரு சிறிய வழக்கத்தைப் பார்க்கலாம்.

ஆலயத்தில் விநாயகருக்கு நாள்தோறும் வாழைப்பழம் நிவேதனம் செய்ய அறக்கட்டளை அமைத்திருந்தான். அப்படி விநாயகருக்கு தினந்தோறும் 150 வாழைப்பழம் வழங்குவதற்கு 360 காசுகளை முதலாகப் போட்டு ஆலயத்தின் பண்டாரத்தில் (Treasury) வைத்திருந்தான். இது என்ன வேடிக்கை? 300 காசுகள் முதல் போட்டு தினந்தோறும் 150 வாழைப்பழமா? ஆம்! ஒரு நாள் நிவேதனத்துக்கு 150 பழங்கள் தேவை என்றால் ஆண்டொன்றுக்கு (360×150=54000) பழங்கள். அன்றை வாழைப்பழ விலை ஒரு காசுக்கு 1200 பழங்கள். ஒரு வருடத்திற்கு வேண்டிய தொகை 45 காசுகள். இந்தத் தொகையை ஆண்டு வட்டியாகப் பெறும் மூலதனம் 360 காசுகள் என்பதிலிருந்து வட்டி விகிதம் 12.5% என்று தெரிகிறது. உள்ளூர் வணிகர்கள் வட்டிக்குப் பணம் வாங்கினார்கள். அந்த வட்டியைக் கணக்கிட்டே அரசன் 360 காசுகளை மூலதனமாகப் போட்டு தினந்தோறும் தேவையான வாழைப்பழங்களை நிவேதனத்துக்குப் பெற்றான் என்பதிலிருந்து, மன்னனுடைய பொருளாதார அறிவையும், விலைவாசியைக் கட்டுக்குள் வைக்கும் வழிகளையும் தெரிந்திருந்தான் என்பது புரிகிறது. மன்னனுடைய இந்த ஏற்பாட்டின்படி மூலதனம் அப்படியே இருக்கும், ஆண்டு வட்டி வருமானத்தை மட்டும் செலவுக்கு எடுத்துக் கொள்வார்கள். அப்படி வட்டிக்கு பண்டாரத்திலிருந்து பணம் வாங்கிக்கொள்ள வர்த்தகர்கள் முன்வந்தார்கள்.

வாழைப்பழ எடுத்துக்காட்டினைப் பார்த்தோம். அதுபோலவே செண்பக மொட்டு, இலாமிச்சம், பருப்பு, மிளகு, சீரகம், சர்க்கரை, நெய், புளி, தயிர், கொள்ளு, உப்பு, வாழையிலை, வெற்றிலை, பாக்கு, சிதாரி, கற்பூரம், விறகு, பழைய அரிசி ஆகிய பொருட்களின் விலைகளும் கால்நடைகளின் விலைகளும் கட்டுப்பாட்டுக்குள் இருந்தன என்பதை தஞ்சை கல்வெட்டுக்கள் அறிவிக்கின்றன.

கல்வெட்டில் செதுக்கப்பட்ட மன்னன் அளித்த நிவந்தங்கள்

தஞ்சை இராஜராஜேச்சரத்தில் உள்ள இராஜராஜ சோழனின் முதல் கல்வெட்டு கூறும் செய்தி இது:- “நாம் எடுப்பிச்ச திருக்கற்றளி ஸ்ரீராஜராஜீச்சரமுடையார்க்கு நாங்குடுத்தனவும், நம் அக்கண் கொடுத்தனவும் நம் பெண்டுகள் குடுத்தனவும் மற்றும் குடுத்தார் குடுத்தனவும் ஸ்ரீவிமானத்தின் கல்லிலே வெட்டுக என்று திருவாய் மொழிந்தருள, கல்லில் வெட்டின. யாண்டு இருபதாவது நாள் முன்னூற்றொரு பத்திரண்டினால் உடையார் ஸ்ரீராஜராஜதேவர் குடுத்த ஸ்ரீபலி எழுந்தருளும் பொன்னின் கொள்கை தேவர் ஒருவர் ஆடவல்லான் என்னுங் கல்லால் நிறை எண்ணூற்றிருபத்தொன்பதின் கழஞ்சேய் முக்காலே மூன்று மஞ்சாடி நாளதினாலேயே டுத்த பொன்னின் பத்மாஸன ஸ்ரீபலி தலம் ஒன்று மேற்படி கல்லால் நிறை தொள்ளாயிரத்து தொன்னூற்றைய்ங் கழஞ்சரையே நாலுமஞ்சாடி”.

மன்னன் ராஜராஜன் இத்திருக்கோயிலுக்கு அளித்த ஆயிரக்கணக்கான பொருட்கள் வரிசையில் முதலில் குறிப்பிடப் பெற்றவை 829 கழஞ்சு எடையில் செய்யப்பெற்ற ஸ்ரீபலி எழுந்தருளும் தேவர் பொன் திருமேனியும் 995 கழஞ்சு எடையில் செய்யப்பெற்ற பொன்னாலான பத்மத்துடன் கூடிய ஸ்ரீபலிபீடம் என்பதையும் அறியமுடிகிறது. இங்கு “ஸ்ரீபலி” என்று குறிப்பிடப்படும் சொல்லுக்கு “அர்ப்பணித்தல்” என்று பொருள். மாமன்னன் காலத்தில் இந்தக் கோயிலில் தினமும் வாத்திய இசையோடு கூடிய நாட்டியம் எனும் ஆடற்கலையும் ஈசனுக்கு அர்ப்பணிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது எனும் செய்தி இதிலிருந்து அறிந்து கொள்ளலாம்.

ஆலயத்தில் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்ட வாத்தியக் கருவிகள்

ஸ்ரீராஜராஜீச்சரத்தில் பல வாத்தியக் கருவிகள் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டன. குழல், உடுக்கை, இலைத்தாளம், கொட்டி மத்தளம், கின்னரம், பறை, மெராவியம், வங்கியம், பாடவியம், வீணை, முத்திரைச்சங்கு, சகடை ஆகியவை இவை. இவற்றில் மெராவியம் என்பது நாகசுரம் போன்ற ஒரு குழல் இசைக்கருவியாக இருக்கலாம் என்பது முனைவர் குடவாயில் அவர்களின் முடிவு. பாடவியம் என்பதோர் மற்றொரு இசைக்கருவி. இது பற்றி ராஜராஜன் கல்வெட்டுகளில் காணப்படும் செய்தி.

“திருவிடைமருதுடையார் கோயிலில் பாடவியத்திற்கு முன்பு நிவந்தமில்லாமையில் அத்தேவர்க்கு பாடவியம் வாசிக்க நித்த நெல்லு இருதூணியாக அரையன் திருவிடைமருதூருடையானான மும்முடிச்சோழ நிருத்தப் பேரரையனுக்கும் இவன் வர்க்கத்தாருக்கும் காணியாகக் குடுத்தோம்…”

“திருமுகப்படியே திருவிடைமருதூருடையார் கோயிலில் பாடவியக் காணியுடையார் ஸ்ரீராஜராஜதேவர் பெருந்தனத்து காந்தப்பரில் அரையன் திருவிடைமருதுடையானான மும்முடிச்சோழ நித்தப் பேரரையனுக்கும் இவன் வர்க்கத்தாருக்கும் காணியாகக் குடுத்த இப்பாடவியம் வாசிப்பானுக்கு நித்தம் நெல்லு இருதூணியாக ஒராட்டைக்கு நெல்லு இருநூற்று நாற்பதின் கலம்…” என்று குறிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.

ஸ்ரீவிமானம் பொன்வேய்ந்தது

இராஜராஜன் திருவாயிலிலுள்ள ஒரு சிதைந்த கல்வெட்டின்படி இராஜராஜேச்சரத்துக்கு மன்னன் விமானம் முழுவதும் பொன் வேய்ந்தான் என்று தெரிகிறது. இதுதவிர மன்னனின் தமக்கையார் குந்தவை நாச்சியார் (அக்கன் என்று குறிப்பிடப்படுபவர்) பட்டத்தரசி ஓலோகமகாதேவியார், மற்றொரு மனைவியான சோழமகாதேவியார், அபிமானவல்லி, திரைலோக்கிய மகாதேவி, பஞ்சவன்மாதேவி, பிருத்வி மகாதேவி, இலாடமாதேவி ஆகியோரும் கொடைகள் அளித்திருக்கிறார்கள். இவர்கள் அனைவருமே மன்னனுடைய தேவிகளாவர்.

நாயக்க மன்னர்கள் ஆட்சியில் பெரிய கோயில்

தஞ்சையை செவ்வப்ப நாயக்கர், அச்சுதப்ப நாயக்கர், இரகுநாதநாயக்கர், விஜயராகவ நாயக்கர் ஆகிய அரசர்கள் கி.பி.1535 முதல் 1675 வரை ஆண்டுகொண்டிருந்தார்கள். இவர்கள் காலத்தில் ஆலயத் திருப்பணிகளும், ஆலயங்கள் பராமரிப்பும் மிகச்சிறப்பாக நடைபெற்றிருக்கின்றன. ஆலயங்களில் இசை, நாடகம், நாட்டியம் ஆகிய கவின் கலைகள் வளர்ச்சி பெற்றன. குறிப்பாக ஆந்திரப் பகுதியிலிருந்து இங்கு வந்த புதிய கலையான பாகவத மேளா எனும் இசைநாட்டிய நிகழ்ச்சி நடைபெற்றன. சோழ மன்னர்கள் விட்டுச்சென்ற இசைப் பாரம்பரியத்தோடு, வளமும் புதுமையுமான நாயக்க மன்னர்களின் இசை மரபுகளும் சேர்ந்து கொண்டன. தஞ்சை கலைகளின் இருப்பிடமாக மாறியது. இவர்கள் காலத்தில்தான் ஆலயத்திலிருந்த மகாநந்தி புதிதாக அமைக்கப்பட்டது, சோழர்களின் நந்தி இப்போது வராகி அம்மன் கோயிலுக்கருகில் இருக்கிறது. பிரகாரத்தில் சுப்பிரமணிய சுவாமிக்குப் புதிய கோயில் கட்டப்பட்டது.

ஆலயத்தில் மூர்த்திஅம்மன் மண்டபம், மல்லப்ப நாயக்கர் மண்டபம் ஆகியவை நிருவப்பட்டன. செவ்வப்ப நாயக்கரும் அவர் மகன் அச்சுதப்ப நாயக்கரும் இந்நகரின் பொற்கொல்லர்களுக்கு சில உரிமைகளை வழங்கினர்.

மராட்டியர் ஆட்சி காலத்தில்

கி.பி. 1675 தொடங்கி 1850 வரையில் தஞ்சையை மராட்டிய மன்னர்கள் ஏகோஜி, சஹாஜி, முதலாம் சரபோஜி, துளஜேந்திரராஜா, பாவாசாகிப், சுஜான்பாயி, பிரதாபசிம்ம ராஜா, இரண்டாம் துளஜா, அமரசிம்மன், இரண்டாம் சரபோஜி, சிவாஜி, காமாட்சிபாயி ஆகியோர் ஆண்டு வந்தார்கள். இவர்கள் காலத்தில் ஆலயத்தின் பல பகுதிகளில் புதிய கட்டடங்கள் கட்டப்பட்டன. கலைகள் ஏற்றம் பெற்றன. சிற்ப, சித்திர, நாட்டிய, இசை போன்ற கலைகள் வளர்ச்சியடைந்தன.

இரண்டாம் சரபோஜி காலத்தில் திருக்கோயில் திருப்பணி செய்யப்பட்டது. சரபோஜியின் போஸ்லே வம்ச வரலாறு கல்வெட்டில் வெட்டப்பட்டது. 1729ல் குடமுழுக்கு நடைபெற்றது. விமான உச்சியில் அப்போது ஒரு புதிய கலசம் வைக்கப்பட்டது. அதில் ‘ராசா சரபோசி மகாராசா உபையம்’ என்று எழுதப்பட்டிருந்தது. கடைசி மராட்டிய மன்னனான சிவாஜி காலத்தில் 7-9-1843ல் மற்றொரு குடமுழுக்கு நடைபெற்றிருக்கிறது. 1798 முதல் 1832 வரை தஞ்சையை ஆண்ட இரண்டாம் சரபோஜி பல அறப்பணிகள் செய்தான். இவன் காலத்தில் பிரகாரத்துக்குக் கல் தளம் அமைக்கப்பட்டது. வடகிழக்கிலுள்ள மண்டூக தீர்த்தக் கிணறு புதுப்பிக்கப்பட்டது. வடமேற்குப் பகுதியில் ஒரு கணபதி ஆலயம் புதிதாக நிர்மாணிக்கப்பட்டது.

பிரிட்டிஷ் ஆட்சியிலும், சுதந்திர இந்தியாவிலும்

பிரிட்டிஷ் ஆட்சியில் இவ்வாலயம் கவனிக்கப்பட்டதாகத் தெரியவில்லை. யுத்த காலத்தில் சிப்பாய்களும், இரண்டாம் உலக யுத்தத்தின் போது விமானப்படை தாக்குதலை சமாளிக்க நிறுவப்பட்ட ஒரு படையும் இவ்வாலயத்தினுள் முகாமிட்டிருந்தனர். சுதந்திர இந்தியாவில்கூட பல ஆண்டுகள் இவ்வாலயத்துக்கு வரும் பொதுமக்கள் எண்ணிக்கை மிகமிகக் குறைவாகவே இருந்தன. இது தொல்பொருள் இலாகா வசம் இருப்பதால் அவர்கள் இதனை மேம்படுத்தவும், சுற்றுலாப் பயணிகள் பெருமளவில் வந்துபோகவும் பல ஏற்பாடுகளைச் செய்து வைத்தனர். சுதந்திரத்துக்குப் பிறகு மக்கள் சிறிது சிறிதாக இவ்வாலயத்தின் பெருமை கருதி வரத் தொடங்கினர். சுற்றுலாப் பயணிகளுக்கும் இது ஒரு முக்கிய இடமாகக் குறிக்கப்பட்டது. ஒரு காலகட்டத்தில் இவ்வாலய அர்ச்சகர்களுக்கு சம்பளம் கொடுக்கக்கூட திணறியது நிர்வாகம்.

இப்போது நிலைமை தலைகீழாக மாறிவிட்டது. இங்கு சுற்றுலா கூட்டமும், உள்ளூர் கூட்டமும் அலைமோதுகிறது. தென்னக பண்பாட்டு மையம் தங்கள் கலை நிகழ்ச்சிகளையும், நாட்டியம், இசை போன்றவற்றை இவ்வாலயத்தின் நந்தி மண்டபம் அருகே நடத்துகின்றனர். ஆலயம் புத்துயிர்பெற்று பழம்பெருமையை மீண்டும் பெறுவதற்கான வெற்றிப் பயணத்தில் நடைபோட்டுக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது. இதன் பெருமையை ஒரு முறையாவது நேரில் வந்து பார்ப்பவர்களால்தான் புரிந்து கொள்ள முடியும். காலங்கள் மாறினாலும், மன்னன் வாழ்ந்த அரண்மனை, நகரம் இவை அழிந்து போனாலும், அவன் எழுப்பிய இந்த வானுயர இராஜராஜேச்சரம் காலம் காலத்துக்கும் நிலைத்து நின்று, மன்னன் ராஜராஜனின் புகழை உயர்த்திப் பிடிக்கும்.

A New Service Project-Sharing of Thoughts

Few days ago one of my juniors Mr.Maheswaran introduced me to one Mr. Subbaih, an engineering contractor.Both of them explained that they would like me to manage an oldage home.The home will provide free boarding and lodging to a minimum of 10 destitute old people to begin with. As support base grows more number of people can be accommodated. They took me to a house, which they said will be taken on lease basis. The house and a small shed with shady trees and moving space looks ideal for old people to live. The project seems to be viable. A body of eminent persons of the town will be registered.The day today management, I will directly take care of.

Coming to the estimated cost,the per capita expenses per day may be to the tune of Rs. 150/- per person. That includes food,water, electricity,lease amount, servants' salary, cook's salary, medical bills,clothing, sleeping materials other miscelaneous expenses.For ten persons Rs 1500/= per day.
I am sharing this with you, with a fond hope many of you may respond positively.I want to ensure some 100 people from this blog may come forward to support this noble cause.If you are interested scrible a few lines either in this comments column or

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them. After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble.. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. When he was standing before it, he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side. When he was close enough, he called out, 'Excuse me, where are we?' 'This is Heaven, sir,' the man answered. 'Wow! Would you happen to have some water?' the man asked. 'Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up.' The man gestured, and the gate began to open. 'Can my friend,' gesturing toward his dog, 'come in, too?' the traveller asked. 'I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets.' The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog. After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.... 'Excuse me!' he called to the man. 'Do you have any water?' 'Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in.' 'How about my friend here?' the traveler gestured to the dog. 'There should be a bowl by the pump,' said the man. They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveller filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog. When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree. 'What do you call this place?' the traveller asked. 'This is Heaven,' he answered. 'Well, that's confusing,' the traveller said. 'The man down the road said that was Heaven, too.' 'Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell.' 'Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?' 'No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind.' Soooo. Now you see, sometimes, we wonder why friends keep forwarding stuff to us without writing a word. Maybe this will explain it. When you are very busy, but still want to keep in touch, guess what you do? You forward mails. When you have nothing to say, but still want to keep contact, you forward jokes. When you have something to say, but don't know what, and don't know how.... you forward stuff. A 'forward' lets you know that you are still remembered, you are still important, you are still loved, you are still cared for. So, next time if you get a 'forward', don't think that you've been sent just another forwarded joke, but that you've been thought of today and your friend on the other end of your computer wanted to send you a smile. சிவகங்கை : வறுமையின் கோரத்தால், மூன்று பெண் குழந்தைகளை தவிக்க விட்டு, தாய் தற்கொலை செய்து கொண்டார். தந்தையில்லாமல் ஆதரவின்றி மூன்று பெண் குழந்தைகள் தத்தளிக்கின்றனர்.ராமநாதபுரம் மாவட்டம் தொண்டியை சேர்ந்தவர் நாகராஜ். இவரது மனைவி ராமாயி (30). காயத்ரி (9), கவுசல்யா (8), ரதி (3), கவுரி (1) என, நான்கு குழந்தைகள். ராமாயி, கடைசி குழந்தையை வயிற்றில் சுமந்திருந்த நிலையில், நாகராஜன் குடும்பத்தை விட்டு பிரிந்து சென்றார்.

இதுவரை அவரை பற்றி தகவல் இல்லை.கையில் மூன்று குழந்தைகள், கர்ப்பத்தில் ஒன்று என, சுமைகளுடன், வறுமையின் கொடூரத்தையும் சுமந்தார் ராமாயி. கூலி வேலையில் கிடைக்கும் சொற்ப தொகையில், இவர்களின் இருட்டு வாழ்க்கை தொடர்ந்தது. வறுமையின் கோரப்பிடி இறுகியதால், கடைசி குழந்தையை, அவரது தங்கைக்கு தத்து கொடுத்தார்.சிவகங்கை, கூட்டுறவுபட்டி அருகே செவல்பட்டியை சேர்ந்த விஜயா என்பவர், இவருக்கு அவ்வப்போது உதவிகள் செய்தார். 'இனி வாழ வழி இல்லை' என முடிவு செய்த ராமாயி, கடந்த 11 ம் தேதி, விஜயா வீட்டிற்கு குழந்தைகளுடன் வந்தார். விஜயா வெளியில் சென்ற போது, ராமாயி தூக்கிட்டு இறந்தார்.

தந்தையின் முகம் மறந்து, தாயின் அரவணைப்பில் இருந்த குழந்தைகள், தற்போது நாதியின்றி தத்தளிக்கின்றன. உறவினர்களும் கைகொடுக்காத நிலையில், குழந்தைகளின் எதிர்காலம் கேள்விக்குறியாகியுள்ளது. தற்கொலை வழக்கை விசாரித்த சிவகங்கை உதவி எஸ்.பி., சந்திரா சோனல், குழந்தைகளை, தேனி மாவட்டம் ஜி.கல்லுப் பட்டி ஆதரவற்றோர் இல்லத்தில் சேர்க்க முயற்சி எடுத்துள்ளார்.இக்குழந்தைகளின் வாழ்வில் ஒளியேற்ற விரும்புவோர், தொடர்பு கொள்ளலாம்.

Other than the three top cops of Mumbai police, Hemant Karkare, Ashok Kamte and Vijay Salaskar who were killed in the attack on Mumbai by terrorists, people have forgotten a real hero. Tukaram Omble, 48, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), the only cop who with his daredevil courage helped in the nabbing of a terrorist on 26/11 alive.
Omble was asked by his senior officer to take up a position on Marine drive on Wednesday night, as soon as the news of firings at Leopold Café, Oberoi and Taj Hotels came in.
Subsequently, at 12.45 am, Omble got an alert on his walkie-talkie that two terrorists had hijacked a Skoda car and were heading towards Girgaum Chowpatty. Minutes later Omble saw the Skoda drtiving past him. He jumped onto his two- wheeler and chased the terrorist's car.
A team from the DB Marg police station was busy setting up a naka bandi at the Chowpatty signal. As soon as the car approached the signal the terrorists fired at the police team but had to reduce the speed of the car, thanks to the barricades laid by the police team for naka bandi.
Omble overtook the Skoda and stopped in front of it, forcing the driver of the car to change the direction towards right and hit the divider.
With one terrorist busy controlling the car, Omble sprang on other terrorist, Amir Kasab and caught hold of the barrel of the AK-47 rifle with both hands. In retaliation Kasab pulled the trigger of the gun, whose barrel was pointed towards Omble.
A spray of bullets entered Omble's stomach and intestines. But the latter held on to the gun until his last breath, stopping Kasab from shooting anyone else.
In next to no time other cops arrived and killed another terrorist, Ismail, pounced on Kasab and captured him.Investigating agencies were successful in gathering lot of information from the sole terrorist who has been arrested. But this was only possible because of Omble's daredevil move.
Omble is survived by his wife and four daughters. He is a real hero, who has been forgotten by people as well as the politicians who are busy in resigning and giving up their responsibilities rather than to fight against such terrorism.

There is no need for astrological matching for love marriages.What you can not find by personal contact, the chart can not find. Love marriages are called "Gandhrava Vivaaha" and permitted in the Sastras. After dating for months and years, please do not take up horoscope when you decide to marry.
